[adsl] ADSL2+ performance is achievable today

I've just been through an interesting experience with my ISP, Maxnet.
I'm on their standard full up full down "Dash MX MX" plan. When I saw
on this list that my exchange had been upgraded to ADSL2+, I knew I had
an ADSL2+ capable modem, so I contacted Maxnet to ask why I was only
seeing ADSL1 performance (~7.6mbps). They were extremely helpful,
providing stats on my line and liaising multiple times with Telecom who
made several tweaks to my line. Apparently, one of the key factors in
getting ADSL2+ performance is getting your SNR right. 2 days ago, when
I first contacted Maxnet, my SNR was 25db, which is apparently way too
high.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, this morning my line has been
adjusted, my SNR is now at the recommended 12db and my download internet
performance is around 17mbps. So ADSL2+ performance is achievable today
if you have the correct equipment and your line is properly configured
(and your ISP is as helpful as Maxnet were).

Cheers,

Simon
